Around fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then located numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police state initial examinations show the fluid was likely human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.
City officials said they were trying "to unravel the case" and have requested to the public for tips.
A high-ranking official said the vandalism made him speechless and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on social media, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
